Some of your most commonly asked questions:
We are often asked similar questions from our clients in regards to our Fencing and Gate products, so please allow us to provide a few of them that may assist you.
Q. What is the typical turn-around for a Quotation?
We strive to turn quotes around within 48 hours of recieving them, however due to the nature of some large project's, some quotes can take a week or more. If you are tendering for large, Government Project's in particular, please allow at least a week for an accurate quotation. Often these jobs involve completion of in depth methodologies, require site visits, and some consultation may be required with yourself and/or your client for clarification.
Q. How are your Quotation's structured?
We typically price each item individually, and for fencing this is usually priced per meter of fencing supplied and installed, for gates it is each unit. Accessories such as gate motors, keypads, delivery of gates with crane trucks, etc. are all itemised individually. Any exclusions are typically noted in red font at the bottom of the front page for clarity. At P&C Fencing we only want to charge for what is required, and do not charge for items that would not usually be expected of a Fencing Contractor, so like to keep all our inclusions and exclusions clearly visible for our Client's, so you can make informed decisions.
The bane of any Builder, a sub-contractor's variations! In the interest of our mission statement, we want to build long-lasting relationships with our Client's. To that end, we do not deliberately under-price our quotes and then try sting a Client with variations. Unless specifically mentioned, the only variations you could expect is any delays on site that prevent our team from Installing, any changes after fabrication has already occured, or hard digging. Our prices are based on digging through dirt and/or clay for our fence posts, if hard-digging is encountered (such as through rock, bitumen, tree-roots or concrete) this will significantly slow the installation rates of our Installer's, as additional equipment such as jack-hammers, core-drills and the like will need to be utilised to get the job done.
Q. Do I need to know my Client's access requirements when Gate Motor's are required?
ABSOLUTELY! This is an extremely important, and often over-looked part of the tendering process. Gate motors can range drastically in price depending on application and duty cycle. Duty cycle refers to the amount of operations a motor will undertake per hour, in a worst case scenario. For example, if your client has 100 staff that all enter in a morning rush period over the space of an hour, and the site is required to maintain security, then the gate motor will be in a state of constant operation for that hour period. Even if the rest of the day it barely functions until the afternoon rush, a high duty-cycle motor will be required. If a standard duty-cycle motor is provided it will simply over-heat, which will then put the motor into a protection mode and shut-down until cooled down, which will mean no access in or out until the motor cools.
Q. Why not just use high duty-cycle motors on all gates then?
This is a case of the old adage of "you get what you pay for"; high duty-cycle motors are often very expensive, to the effect of double or more a standard motor. So knowing the intimate details of your Client's access requirements is paramount for tendering so no one is left out of pocket.
Q. So what are my options then?
A common compromise for access and security is for a gate motor timer, which when programmed will open the gate automatically at a certain time (say 7am) and leave the gate open for a specified duration (say until 9am), after which the gate will close for security and access is then only granted via an intercom, keypad, swipe card or remote. Conversely, the gate motor could open the gate again for the typical afternoon staff exit period also and then shut for the night. Gate motor timer's are inexpensive if installed at the time of motor installation, so please specify if this is required on your project and one of our friendly staff will include allowances as such.
